Johns Kids-Helping Kids Succeed with Supplies

John’s Kids is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization,
Providing Additional Supplies to Title 1 Schools
in the San Antonio Metropolitan Area

Johns Kids began in the late 1990s as an informal  activity of giving a few packs of paper, pens, crayons, and folders to a few schools that are in need.

John and Martha Blackwell were teachers at John Jay High School and knew their students did not always have  the supplies required. Each year John would take a few hundred dollars out of  his hunting money to purchase school supplies.

After a few years, John began  working for the San Antonio Missions Baseball Team in order to provide more to the students. John retired first, and  five years later Martha joined him to enjoy some traveling.

John’s daughters, Theresa Blackwell-Fuller and Tracey Blackwell, began chipping in some money. Then, Tracey and Theresa decided to  hold fundraisers to make more money to help more kids.

As the fundraisers got larger, more donors wanted to make  tax-deductible donations, so John and Martha began a yearlong adventure to get  established as a 501(c)(3).

John no longer works for the Missions, as more money became  available from donations and grants.

We partnered in May 2017 with the HEB Retirees Association collecting PB, J, and crackers, which we distributed to Jerry Allen Elementary and Columbia Heights Elementary.

Johns Kids started with one elementary school and now  provides for five elementary schools and two middle schools, and one high schools

Your tax deductible donation can be mailed to the address below.

What We Do - We  provide each school with materials for general and specific educational  projects from writing materials to art supplies and in-between

Types of Supplies - We  provide each school with materials for general and specific educational  projects from writing materials to art supplies and in-between.

Students Do Not Like Holidays from School - Many of  the economically disadvantaged families have little or no food in the home. So  students like school because they get breakfast and lunch.  Johns Kids provides peanut butter and jelly  so the students have something to eat when not in school. Johns Kids also  provides 100 families with a turkey or ham dinner with all the trimmings at Christmas.

Working with other Groups - John’s Kids has worked with the Valley-Hi Optimist Club and is working with grants to provide funding for additional special items like mini-iPads.
